Star Deli

The star of this episode, Star Deli. Each sandwich on this menu has its own interest and as their website declares they “opened in 2010 to create a menu full of artisan style sandwiches…one for every taste and personality.” Well here’s a quick preview…they did just that. From the Don Rocco to the French Dip and even the Pork Carnitas there is variety here. You can also get a bowl of French Onion soup. Indalecio Penaloza of La Poblanita

We met Indalecio Penaloza of La Poblanita way back in March of 2021 when TJ and I were doing parking lot dining for all of our eats due to the pandemic. We ordered quite a bit from the sandal inspired huarache to the amazing deeply flavored chicken mole. Indy stopped out to talk to us about our meal (and maybe wondered a bit about these crazy guys tailgating in his lot). The Sandwich Episode

This episode I went to Phyl’s, Danell went to the Pit Lounge, I went to WD Racletterie, Danell went to Greg’s Drive In….ok so what I’m trying to say is that this was Mission Sandwich! The plan was this, seek out amazing, epic, unique sandwiches around Omaha and our area. We ended up at some fun spots and there are many more epic sandwiches out there, time for a Dirty Birds revisit anyone?...but that’s for a later show. This was kinda my excuse to try a few sandwich spots that have been on my list for sometime.

Ali and Chase Woodward Of Countryside Cones

Ali Woodward had a memory and saw an opportunity. She took her east coast New Jersey custard memories and launched a new career outside of her former nursing role and along with her husband Chase created Countryside Cones a brand new shop serving cold treats and looking to make those same memories for others. We talk about success and challenges from starting quickly, learning how to create a business plan, squaring off with machinery and places that Ali and Chase like to eat, all from the Village Grinder coffee bunker….so listening in you’re hungry.

Katie and Noah Mock of Fizzy’s Fountain and Liquors

Katie and Noah Mock rock both Nite Owl and Fizzy’s Fountain and Liquors in Little Bohemia. I met Katie at the Aksarben Burger Battle where her crew was serving up a tiny yet tasty double patty tribute to the burger that I became deliciously familiar with at Fizzys. Katie, Noah, and I got to talk food and discuss the hardline table telephone ordering at Fizzy’s along with insight into the world of their restaurants. Oscar and Maira Hernandez Of Corner Kitchen

I must confess I broke a cardinal Faturday rule on our prior Corner Kitchen episode as I usually wait to review a place until after they have been open for about a month…but I couldn’t help myself as the food looked too fun. 
Well, on this episode we have the creators of that food Chef Oscar Hernandez and fellow Corner Kitchen owner Maira Hernandez. We of course talk about Corner Kitchen, places Maira and Oscar like to eat and I really dig the part where we get to talk about the cuisine of Mexico specifically the different types of tortas…chiliquiles torta anyone?

Tim and Lisa Trudell The Walking Tourists

Time to stroll with Lisa and Tim Trudell otherwise known as the Walking Tourists. I became acquainted with Tim and Lisa through their books 100 Things to Do In Omaha Before you Die and of course Unique Eats and Eateries of Omaha. We talk about their work adventuring and authoring in and around our fair city as well as outside of the metro. They also have an upcoming book focused on preserving the history of our Omaha restaurants which have been a part of our lives from daily lunches or maybe a special celebration. Conversation is afoot on this walk with the Walking Tourists.

Faturday Omaha At Korean House

You are in for a treat, well I have to say Danell and I had the treats and you too will be treated with the food of Korean House located at 2413 Lincoln Rd, Bellevue, NE. This is a tiny spot with big fun between the wonderful food and the hospitality of the owner and staff. We’re talking sweet bulgogi and heat of the hot chicken and some really tasty fried dumplings. This episode it’s Food Recognize Food with Omar and Hannah Garrido of El Churro Spot and El Churro Truck. Our conversation moves through the happenings at their new brick and mortar location at 1319 S 50th as well as the challenges working a food truck which they have done for about 6 years. We of course find out where Hannah and Omar like to eat in Omaha as well as worldwide and some delicious Italian food…in Mexico…oh yes! East Coast Eats

Carolina’s dirty rice, Maryland’s thrashers fries, Massachusetts fluffernutters, yep all eats at East Coast Eats and those things have to naturally thinking of Salvadorian Tamales and Pupusas…oh you can get those at East Coast Eats too. Oxtail, yep, Jersey Burger, yep that too. Danell and I will be talking about the foods and the fun found there at 7622 Dodge Street and in the 2nd half well it’s more east coast eats with an abrupt change in direction. Hang on to your fork!
